3D Printing FAQ

Everything engineers ask us before placing a first order — pricing, materials, processes, tolerances, delivery and support. If your question is not here, ask an engineer directly and we will answer it.

Getting a Quote

Everything about uploading files, how pricing is calculated, and how fast you get an answer.

How do I get a 3D printing quote?+

Upload your STEP, STP or STL file on the quote page. Our engine analyses the geometry, computes exact volume and machine time, and returns a full price breakdown including material, printing, finishing and delivery — usually within two minutes. No account and no credit card required.

How long does it take to get a quote?+

Under two minutes for most files. Complex assemblies with many small parts take slightly longer to analyse, but you still see the price immediately and can place the order straight away.

Is the quote final or can the price change?+

The price you see is calculated from your actual geometry and our real machine profiles, so it holds. Every quote is valid for 7 days. If our engineering review finds something that would materially change the part — for example support that cannot be removed cleanly — we contact you and agree any change before production begins.

Do I need an account to get a quote?+

No. Quoting is free and available to guests. Creating a free account additionally saves your quotes so you can compare options later and reorder without re-uploading.

Which file formats do you accept?+

STEP (.step, .stp) and STL (.stl). STEP is preferred because it contains exact solid geometry and real unit information, while STL is a triangulated mesh. Both produce a quote within seconds.

Can I get a quote for multiple parts?+

Yes. Upload an assembly with multiple bodies, or upload several files. Consolidating parts onto one build plate is also the most effective way to reduce cost, because per-part setup time is removed.

Pricing & Payment

What drives your cost, how payment works, and how quotes stay valid.

How is 3D printing cost calculated?+

Price is driven by four factors: the volume of material your part consumes, the machine time required at your chosen layer height and infill, the material itself, and the delivery speed you select. Our quote engine measures the real geometry of your file and prices all four automatically, which is why the number is accurate rather than a rough guess.

What factors can I change to reduce the price?+

Quantity is the biggest lever — unit cost falls sharply at 5, 10 and 50+ pieces. After that, layer height, infill density and delivery speed all have real impact. Nesting multiple parts onto one build plate also removes per-part setup cost. Material choice matters most: nylon and carbon fibre composites cost several times PLA.

What payment terms do you offer?+

A 50% advance is required to start production and the balance is due before dispatch. Payments are processed securely through Razorpay, supporting UPI, cards and net banking.

How long is a quote valid?+

Every quote is valid for 7 days from generation. After that, pricing may be revised to reflect current material costs and machine availability.

Do you offer discounts for bulk orders?+

Yes — volume pricing is applied automatically in the quote itself as quantity increases, so you can see the unit cost fall before you order. For genuinely large runs, contact us with your file and we will confirm the price directly.

Can I get a discount for repeat orders?+

Yes. Registered customers with a repeat order history are eligible for preferential pricing. Create a free account to keep your history and quote records in one place.

Materials & Processes

FDM versus DLP, the full material range, and how to choose between them.

Which 3D printing materials do you offer?+

Ten materials across three tiers: standard FDM (PLA, Wood PLA, ABS, PETG), engineering FDM (Nylon PA, TPU, Polycarbonate, ASA) and advanced engineering (carbon fibre reinforced composite, ESD-safe). We also offer four DLP resin classes for fine detail: standard, tough, flexible and castable.

Should I choose FDM or DLP?+

DLP resin gives finer detail, a smoother surface finish and tolerances around ±0.05 mm, and is the right choice for cosmetic parts, fine features and tight fits. FDM is cheaper, faster, supports larger parts and offers the full engineering material range — it is the right choice for functional, load-bearing, large or heat-exposed parts.

What is the difference between PLA and PETG?+

PLA is stiffer, cheaper and gives a slightly better-looking surface. PETG is tougher, more chemically resistant, more heat resistant and has far stronger layer adhesion. Use PLA for prototypes and visual parts; use PETG for anything that will be handled, loaded or cleaned.

Which material is best for outdoor parts?+

ASA. It has the toughness of ABS but is UV-stable and will not yellow or embrittle in sunlight. For outdoor parts that also need high stiffness, carbon fibre reinforced nylon is a good alternative.

Which material is best for gears and moving parts?+

Nylon PA. It is self-lubricating, has high fatigue resistance and outstanding wear behaviour, so nylon-on-nylon or nylon-on-steel mechanisms run without lubricant. Add nylon bushings and it stays smooth.

Do you print in ESD-safe materials?+

Yes. We offer ESD-safe grades of PLA, ABS and PETG with surface resistivity between 10^6 and 10^9 ohms per square — the correct choice for PCB trays, wafer carriers, IC handlers and electronics assembly tooling. Parts are supplied in matte black and verified per batch.

What material do I use for food-contact parts?+

PETG in a food-contact grade, or nylon. Both resist acids, oils and cleaning agents and do not leach the way some plastics do. Flag food contact in your order notes so we assign the correct grade explicitly.

Quality & Tolerances

What accuracy to expect, and how we handle defects.

What tolerances can you achieve?+

Standard FDM holds ±0.2 mm and fine-layer FDM reaches ±0.1 mm. DLP resin holds ±0.05 mm. These are realistic achievable tolerances, not best-case: they assume normal design practice with sensible clearances. Very tight tolerance requirements are worth discussing with our engineers before you order.

What layer height should I choose?+

0.2 mm is the standard default and balances quality against time. Use 0.1 mm for presentation models, smooth curved surfaces or visible threads. Use 0.28–0.32 mm for large, hidden or cost-sensitive parts where fine layer lines do not matter.

How is quality controlled?+

Every part is inspected against the CAD geometry before dispatch. Dimensional accuracy, surface finish and part integrity are checked, and our engineers review orientation and support strategy before production starts.

What happens if a part arrives defective?+

Report it within 7 days of delivery with photographic evidence. We verify it against your file and either replace the part or resolve it under our warranty. Manufacturing defects are covered for 30 days from delivery.

Can I get a dimensional inspection report?+

Yes, on request for critical parts. Add a note at checkout describing the critical dimensions you need verified and our quality team will include measurements in the dispatch documentation.

Delivery & Orders

Turnaround, shipping, order tracking and cancellations.

What is your turnaround time?+

Turnaround is shown in your quote and depends on the process, material and delivery speed you select. Economy production is the lowest cost, express is prioritised on the print floor for a faster dispatch. Every quote states the estimated date before you commit.

Do you deliver across India and internationally?+

Yes. We ship across India and internationally. Delivery cost and time are calculated for your destination during checkout and shown before you pay, so there are no surprises.

How do I track my order?+

Use the Track Order page with your order number and the email address you ordered with. Guest quote tracking is also supported, so you can check progress without creating an account.

Can I cancel an order?+

Yes, within 24 hours of placing the order provided production has not commenced. A cancellation fee of 5% of the order value applies to cover payment gateway charges. Once production has begun, cancellation is not possible.

Can I change my order after placing it?+

If production has not started you can usually amend material, colour or quantity by contacting us with your order number. Contact us as early as possible — once the first layer is printed the job is committed.

Are my CAD files confidential?+

Yes. Uploaded files are used solely to manufacture your order and are treated as confidential throughout. We do not publish, share or reuse customer designs.

Account & Support

Accounts, password help and reaching a human.

Do I need an account to place an order?+

No, you can check out as a guest. A free account is worth creating because it stores your quotes and order history so you can reorder without re-uploading files.

Can I sign in with Google?+

Yes, Google sign-in is available on both the sign-in and sign-up pages alongside email and password.

I forgot my password. What now?+

Use the Forgot Password link on the sign-in page and we will email you a secure reset link. Reset links expire, so request a new one if it has been a while.

How do I contact support?+

Email info@yug3dai.com with your order number if the query relates to an order, and we will respond with a full quote review or engineering recommendation. Our contact page has the registered office address and support hours.

Do you help optimise my model before printing?+

Yes. If you are unsure about material, orientation or wall thickness, send the file with a note describing the end use. Our engineers will recommend the right material and flag any feature likely to cause a print failure — at no cost.

Still have a question?

Send us your CAD file with a short description of what the part does and we will tell you which material, process and settings will actually work — at no cost, whether or not you order.
