Wood PLA is PLA compounded with a percentage of real wood fibre — typically cedar or bamboo. The result prints with all of PLA's easy handling but finishes with the grain, texture and warmth of timber. Because the fibre content is organic, each print has subtle natural variation that no two identical pieces share.
Unlike PLA, wood PLA takes sanding, staining and paint exceptionally well. You can sand the print back, apply wood stain or clear coat, and it reads convincingly as turned or carved timber at a fraction of the cost of CNC machining wood.
Choose wood PLA for decorative items, art models, architectural models and display pieces. Do not choose it for load-bearing parts, precision fits or anything exposed to moisture — the fibre content slightly weakens the layer bond compared with pure PLA.
